BASINGSTOKE and North Hants ended their Southern League Division One campaign in fine fashion with a 90-run victory over visiting Calmore Sports.

The victory saw the Bountymen finish fifth in the table, having been involved in a three-way battle for the title with New Milton and Hook and Newnham Basics earlier in the campaign.

Basingstoke captain Chris Froud was pleased to see his side finish with a win, but was disappointed with the second half of the season.

Froud said: “This season followed a similar pattern to last year. We started well, but then lost key games and had nothing to play for.”

The skipper wants to be at the helm next season and is hoping that the club are able to recruit more players for the 2016 campaign.

Froud said: “We have a lot of good junior players at the club, so the future looks really bright, but we have to bridge the gap until they are first team players.

“It would be nice to have some new faces, but we have to make sure they fit in.”

Mitch Stokes was the club’s top run scorer with 480. He was also their top wicket-taker with 26 victims, just ahead of Martyn James on 24.
