BASINGSTOKE seconds suffered a 48 run loss in their final home game of the season in the Southern League Division Three to visiting Havant II.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and made a fine start as James Christian (63) and James Robson (45) put on 94 runs for the second wicket.

Further half centuries further down the order from Steven Dean (53) and Gareth Ransley with an unbeaten 59 helped them to 287-8 after their 50 overs.

Keith Harsham (2-41) and Mo Rizwan (2-50) were the chief wicket takers for the Bountymen.

Opener Rizwan (55) led the reply and along with Lee Nurse put on 50 for the first wicket.

Rizwan and Steve Bucksey (41) then added 58 for the second wicket, but from 108-1, the home side slumped to 132-6.

Joe Oates (38) and Keith Harsham (23) shared a seven wicket partnership worth 55 and Dan King batting at number nine scored a useful unbeaten 32 as Basingstoke finished on 229-9.

Phillip Loat (3-35) and Warren Turner (3-51) were the top Havant bowlers.

Basingstoke wrap up their season next week with a trip to St Cross II.
