HARTLEY Wintney relegation fight in Southern League Division One took a blow after they lost at bottom side Calmore Sports by 14 runs.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field and Mark Lavelle (23) and Ben Johns (94) made a solid start to the innings.

Opener Johns was the top scorer in the match and his fine knock lasted 119 balls and saw him score one six and 17 fours.

Paul Proudley with a late 31-ball 27 helped the home side to a score of 210-7 as Mark Teale 2-19 was the pick of the Hartley bowlers.

In reply, the village side were soon in trouble as both openers Matt Kerr and Jack Hersh scored just seven.

Dan Croft (4-48) then removed Hartley’s key pair Aaron Wivell and Scott Baldwin both without scoring.

Chris Jolley (39) promoted up the order was the only player in top five to get into double figures.

Dan Wrenn (20) and Richard Hill (32) set about getting the side back on track and skipper Jamie Teale with an excellent unbeaten 70 from 80 balls, which saw him smash two sixes and three fours got Hartley into range.

Unfortunately, they were all out for 196 with eight balls left and ended 15 runs short of a winning score.

It gets no easier for the village side as they face a visit from high flying Hook and Newnham Basics.
