HOOK and Newnham Basics made it four wins out of four in the Southern League Division One, with a six wicket victory at Andover.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat and for once this season Hook were unable take an early wicket as Ali Hooper (55) and Glyn Treagus (16) enjoy a 45-run opening stand.

They were parted by Kieran Thomson (2-39) and then Anik Divecha (1-18) took the next wicket which he deserved for a very tidy spell.

Hooper was the third man out and his 55 came from 64 balls and included one six and 10 fours.

His departure saw the home on 96-3 and if was left to David Taylor to take up the mantle with his second league century of season as he ended up unbeaten on 115.

This came from just 95 balls and saw him clear the boundary rope six times and he also collected 11 fours.

Taylor shared a fifth wicket stand worth 94 with Max Souter (30), the last Andover man out, when he was stumped by Josh Buckingham off the bowling of Richard Willcock (1-51).

Andover finished their 50 overs on 269-5, which set the visitors a testing target of the season which they managed to pass with seven balls to spare.

Openers Ben Thane (24) and Kieran Thomson (26) got their side off to a good start as they put on 46 for the first wicket.

Matt Love (46) and the superb Nick Willcock (92) added 95 for the third wicket.

Then it was the turn of Willcock and Matt Buckingham (64 not out) to put on 106 for the fourth wicket.

Willcock’s excellent 89-ball knock saw him hit three sixes and eight fours and it was only sad he was not there at the end.

It was left to Buckingham and Ben Allnutt to complete the win, their fourth on the trot.

However, this was not enough to keep Hook top of Division One, as New Milton are the new leaders by one point after their crushing 176-run win over Totton and Eling.

Next weekend, Hook have a home derby date with Hartley Wintney.
