HOOK and Newnham Basics maintained top spot in the Southern League Division One, after another comprehensive victory, this time over visiting Calmore Sports.

The home side won the game by six wickets, after they bowled out the visitors who won the toss and decided to bat for just 74.

Hook will now look to continue their perfect start to the season when they travel to fifth placed Andover on Saturday.

Their north Hampshire rivals won their opening game of the campaign against Liphook, but have lost their last two outings against Totton and Eling and Rowledge.

When the sides met last season in Andover, Shane Brewer had a great game as took a magnificent seven wickets as the home side were bowled out for 121 which helped Hook to a four wicket win.

The reverse game at Hook was started, but then abandoned after a massive thunderstorm flooded the outfield.

For the trip to Andover, Josh Buckingham will make his first team return after recovering from a knee injury and Matt Buckingham is also back after missing the game against Calmore Sports.

Joe Allnutt, who took over the wicket-keeping gloves last Saturday, returns to the second XI, while top spin bowler Kevin Poulter is unavailable.

Hook skipper Matt Love is taking nothing for granted as they travel to their north Hampshire rivals and said: "We respect Andover as they have beaten us before over the years. We know they have a number of players who take the game away from you in the space of 15 overs.

"So we are expecting a tough game, but we are playing well at the moment and want to stay at the top of the league."
