Hampshire Cricket have decided not to play a one-day game on the Isle of Wight this year.

The Royal London One-Day Cup match against Lancashire on Monday, August 17 had been earmarked as a potential fixture for Newclose Cricket Ground, near Newport.

But after a recent logistical check and further internal discussions, the club has decided to put their first game at Newclose on hold.

Commercial Director, Stuart Robertson explained: “Moving a fixture involves a large number of complex arrangements to be perfectly aligned and although we have made good progress in that regard, we haven’t managed to tick every box for this season.

"I’d like to thank the team at Newclose for their on-going support and it does remain our firm intention to bring a Hampshire fixture to Newclose on the Isle of Wight in the near future.”

Hampshire last played a first-team game on the Island in 1963. But Hampshire's Second XI has three fixtures at Newclose this season; one against the Elite International Cricket Academy (June 10 & 11) and two against the MCC Young Cricketers (July 21 – 24).
