Former Hampshire all-rounder Alex Morris will be cycling to the Ageas Bowl later this year - to raise money for charity.

Morris will be getting on his bike along with four members of England’s 2005 Ashes-winning side in support of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Benevolent Fund and the Tom Maynard Trust.

The 38 year-old will join Michael Vaughan, who captained England to Ashes glory ten years ago, Andrew Flintoff, Marcus Trescothick and Steve Harmison among 60 riders who will cycle from Truro in Cornwall to the Kia Oval in the Big Bike Ride 2.

Covering around 400 miles, the ride is split into five legs starting with Truro to Instow, Devon on October 9.

The following day the riders will cycle from Instow to Somerset’s County Ground headquarters at Taunton followed by legs from Taunton to the Ageas Bowl on October 11, the Ageas Bowl to Sussex’s TheBrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground at Hove on October 12 ending with the final leg from Hove to the Kia Oval on October 13.

The first Big Bike Ride in 2013 raised more than £200,000 for the PCA Benevolent Fund and Tom Maynard Trust and another six-figure sum in sponsorship is the target for this year’s event.

Morris, who also played county cricket for Yorkshire, took 147 first-class wickets at 24.56 and scored 1,030 runs at 21.45 for Hampshire from 1998-2003. He now works as a firefighter at Ossett in his native Yorkshire.
