Glenn Maxwell was out for a two-ball duck but took four catches as Australia won the first one-day international against England in Sydney.

The former Hampshire star caught Moeen Ali at deep extra and Ravi Bopara at backward point before catching Chris Jordan and centurion Eoin Morgan (121) at deep mid-wicket as England were bowled out for 234.

Morgan hit Maxwell out of the attack with ten in two balls in the 43rd over.

But Maxwell added a wicket to his four catches, with Chris Woakes easily caught at mid-wicket in the fifth of his six overs after a Brad Haddin drop denied him Jos Buttler's scalp.

Woakes had his revenge when former Hampshire duo George Bailey and Maxwell were caught by Buttler in the space of four balls in the 37th over.

But David Warner's 127 ensured that Australia won by three wickets with more than ten overs to spare.
