JAMES Vince is closing in on his maiden first-class fifty for the England Lions after impressing against South Africa A.
The Hampshire star was unbeaten on 43 (101 balls, five fours) at the end of the second day of the four-day match at Boland Park, Paarl.
Vince, who bowled three wicketless overs as South Africa A made 504-8 declared, shared an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 102 with Jonathan Trott (57no).
The Lions were 67-3, with former Hampshire overseas player Rory Kleinveldt (2-46) accounting for Sam Robson (41) and Alex Lees (nine), but Vince and Trott esnured they clsoed on 169-3
Vince’s highest Lions score is the 63 he made in a 50-over match against Bangladesh A at Taunton in August 2013.
But he has already surpassed his highest first-class score for England’s second team – the 18 he made against Sri Lanka’s Emerging Players a year ago
