MICHAEL Carberry was out cheaply but Yasir Arafat was in the wickets as Perch Scorchers moved to the top of the KFC Big Bash t20 league in Australia.

Hampshire ace Carberry went into the game against Hobart Hurricanes in great form, having hit an unbeaten 77 off just 37 balls against Andrew Flintoff’s Brisbane Heat.

Carberry managed just a single of nine balls as Perth set Hobart 142 for victory at the Bellerive Oval.

That was too much for them, ex-Hampshire man George Bailey managing just six as his side struggled to 123-7.

Yasir Arafat, who will play limited overs and t20 games for Hampshire in 2015, claimed two last-over wickets, dismissing England’s Tim Bresnan first ball and Ben Hilfenhaus en route to 2-24.

The previous day former Hampshire players had combined to help Melbourne Stars beat cross city rivals Renegades.

Glenn Maxwell (66 off 44 balls) and Kevin Pietersen (49 off 49 balls) put on 120 for the third wicket – their century partnership came off just 66 deliveries – as Stars survived a middle order collapse to pass Renegades’ 153 total for the loss of seven wickets.
