Jackson Bird helped the Melbourne Stars to a dramatic Big Bash win against Sydney Sixers.

Bird, who will be playing for Hampshire for the first three months of the forthcoming LV County Championship season, took 1-9 from his three overs as the Stars tied with Sydney Sixers.

Then he looked on during the Supers Overs as fellow seamer John Hastings ensured that former Hampshire batsman Michael Lumb and two of his Sixers teammates failed to get the 20 they needed to win.

Lumb began the match with a 61-ball 80, including six fours and three sixes, with all of his runs scored after Bird caught and bowled his opening partner Neil Maddinson with his first delivery.

It ensured the Sixers made 150-6.

Then Kevin Pietersen’s 43-ball 54 and a 15-ball 23 from Glenn Maxwell (3-0-24-0), who had opened the Stars' bowling with Bird, ensured a tie as the Stars closed on 150-4.

James Faulkner, with Super Over partner Luke Wright not required to face a ball, struck a match-winning 19 against Brett Lee, including two sixes.
