OLD Basing reached the final of a new six-a-side tournament run by the Hampshire Cricket Board and featuring teams from across the county.

The Hampshire Cricket League side won the north Hampshire heats of the competition, which took place at May’s Bounty, winning five out of six games.

That earned them a place at finals day, which took place at the Ageas Bowl, where they faced Southern League outfits Havant, Ventnor and Fair Oak.

Old Basing faced Southern League Division Three outfit Fair Oak in the semi-final.

Batting first, Basing reached 57-2 from their five overs, with Darren Turner retiring on 25 not out.

It was a total they were able to defend as Fair Oak were bowled out for 42.

That set up a final against Southern League Premier Division heavyweights Havant.

Again Old Basing batted first, making 62-5, but Havant were too strong, getting home for the loss of one wicket with nine balls to spare.
