THE Basingstoke Bison will continue their quest for silverware on two fronts this weekend.

Tomorrow night (7.45pm) the Herd entertain the Swindon Wildcats in the first leg of the Autumn Cup, and then on Sunday night, they travel for a top of the table league clash with the Peterborough Phantoms.

Swindon will arrive in town tomorrow still smarting from last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat in Basingstoke.

However, this result counts for nothing, as these local rivals battle it out for the first trophy on offer this season, with the second leg in Swindon a week tomorrow.

The Bison will welcome back defenceman Dan Scott, but livewire forward Grant Rounding is ruled out due to concussion. After an awful hit from Frankie Bakrlik in Sunday night’s win in Bracknell.

Bison head coach Doug Sheppard said: “Grant (Rounding) being out of the line-up at this stage of the season is not good news as he brings to lot to this team and scores important goals. Everyone now has to step up and we have two big games this weekend. This is what you want at this point of the season to be playing for silverware.”

On Sunday, the Bison travel to Peterborough, knowing victory would leave them with one hand on the league championship trophy with two games to go.

The Herd are two points clear going into the penultimate weekend of the league campaign and both sides having three games left to play.

The Bison currently lead the Phantoms 2-1 in the league series and won on their last visit to Cambridgeshire., but it is one of the toughest places to go and get a win
