THE Basingstoke Bison suffered their first defeat of 2018, as the Swindon Wildcats gained quick revenge for a loss in Hampshire on Saturday night, with a 4-2 victory 24 hours later.

As in the first game of the weekend, Swindon took the lead on their first powerplay of the evening, with Chris Jones the scorer.

The Herd hit back as Dan Davies finished a move involving Ivan Antonov and Josh Smith to level things in the eighth minute.

The Wildcats broke open the game with two goals in the space of 53 seconds from Luc Johnson and Aaron Nell to make it 3-1 at 33:51.

The Bison kept themselves in touch with a goal 17 seconds before the second buzzer from Stuart Mogg, assisted by Aaron Connolly and Roman Malinik.

The visitors then piled on the pressure in the final period, but Renny Marr was not to be beaten in the home net and Phil Hill added a fourth goal for Swindon at 53:25.

The Herd are back in action on Friday night (7.45pm), when they face the Hull Pirates in the first leg of their Autumn Cup semi-final.
