THE Basingstoke Bison moved up to second spot in Group D of the National Cup after winning 4-2 at the Telford Tigers on Sunday night.

This was the Herd's first success in three attempts against the Shropshire side and keeps alive their hopes of a place in the semi-finals.

The Bison scored the opening goal of the first period, when Aaron Connolly tipped a blue line shot from Ivan Antonov for a powerplay strike.

The Herd doubled their advantage in the second session, when Ryan Sutton netted a Grant Rounding rebound and then Dan Davies scored from close range assisted by man of the match Roman Malinik.

At 29:14, Daniel Rose was dismissed for boarding after an awful hit on Elliott Dewey. This incensed Dewey s defensive partner Dan Scott who picked a 2+2+10 penalty for fighting with Rose.

The visitors then made it 4-0 by the second buzzer, as Connolly fired in his second of the night.

Former Bison Joe Miller opened the Tigers account early in the third period, as he tipped a shot from Rick Plant.

The home side then added a second from Corey Goodson, but this was as far as the comeback went as the Herd won the game 4-2.

The Bison are in National Cup action again on Saturday, when group leaders the Swindon Wildcats are in town.
