THE Basingstoke Bison enjoyed a goal feast on Sunday night in Sheffield as they beat the Sheffield Steeldogs 11-6.

This was despite the home side taking the lead after just 44 seconds from Tim Smith, but Bison captain Aaron Connolly levelled things 14 seconds later.

Tomas Karpov then made sure the Herd led at the first break as he scored in the sixth minute.

Nine goals were then scored in the middle session, the first three going to the Bison in a spell of under a minute.

Herd man of the match Ciaran Long scored the first followed by second goals of the night for both Karpov and Connolly to make it 5-1 at 24:02.

The Steeldogs hit back as 38 seconds later, as Adrian Palak netted and then Liam Kirk reduced the lead to two goals.

Soon after the feisty encounter boiled over with Sheffield’s Callum Pattison being dismissed for fighting, while Smith also picked up a two minute roughing penalty.

For the Bison Daniel Lackey received a 10 minute misconduct penalty and Declan Balmer two minutes for roughing.

However, Sheffield scored shorthanded from Pavel Mrna to make it a one goal game, but a minute later Long scored on the powerplay.

Further goals from Grant Rounding and Shaun Thompson made it 8-4 at the second break.

Just 35 seconds into the final period, Long completed his hat-trick and with this Shefffield netminder James Hadfield skated to the bench and was replaced by Brandon Stones.

His shut-out lasted just 64 seconds as Lackey took the Herd’s total to 10.

Sheffield’s player/coach Greg Wood then pulled a goal back, before Vanya Antonov made it 11-5.

The Bison's Derek Roehl was then dismissed as he picked up a 10 followed by a game misconduct with five minutes to go.

It was left to Sheffield’s Smith to finish the match scoring 18 seconds from time.

After a great four point weekend, the Bison are next in action at home on Saturday (6.30pm) when the title chasing Milton Keynes Lightning are the visitors.
