BASINGSTOKE Town marched into the third round of the Southern League Cup after the Premier Division outfit beat their visiting Division One rivals Fleet Town 4-1.

The Dragons put out a strong side making few changes expect for goalkeeper Kieran Green and striker George Hallahan coming into the line-up.

The home side got off to a dream start, as Joe Gater fired in after a corner in only the third minute.

Soon after, Green was called into action to make a save from Pat Cox.

The Dragons had chances to double their advantage from Hallahan and Richie Whittingham.

Five minutes before the break, the home side doubled their lead as Whittingham was fouled in the box by Josh Hadfield. The midfielder dusted himself down and made no mistake from the spot.

A much changed Fleet side got themselves back in the game as Ben Toye scored, but three minutes later Sam Deadfield restored the two goal lead and lobbed the goalkeeper from out wide.

Just after the hour mark, Town made a triple switch and one of the subs Aaron Jarvis forced a great save from Dease Kerrison soon after.

On the 77 minute mark, Jarvis scored what was his fifth goal in five games, with a lovely shot from the edge of the area to complete their 4-1 victory.

This was a great result ahead of Saturday's trip to Dorchester Town in the FA Trophy.
