FOUR ice skaters that train at the Basingstoke Arena will be in action next week in the British Championships at Ice Sheffield.

Jessica Gill, Oliver Parrington-Tyler, Kirsty Isaac and Christopher Pattenden will all take part of the national championships.

Gill and Isaac will make their British Championship debuts skating in the Basic Novice B Ladies category, while Parrington-Tyler and Patterson will skate in the Junior Men’s category.

Gill from Rooksdown trains four times a week at Basingstoke with Peter Baekgaard and twice a week at Guildford with Michael Jaye, her coach since she began skating at the age of six.

The 13-year-old St Gabriel’s School pupil has passed her level eight tests and is a current member of the National Ice Skating Association Regional Development Squad.

She qualified for her British debut with a personal best at the Skate Southern and again in the Basingstoke Open Isaac from Bordon and Whitehill is also 13 and trains in Basingstoke with her coach Jenny Woolford, she also skates in Gosport where she started skating seven years ago and qualified for Sheffield after skating a personal best in a competition there.

Hook’s Parrington-Tyler trains six times a week at Basingstoke with Baekgaard and also skates at Bracknell with Gary Peed.

The Robert May’s School pupil started skating at eight and entered his first competition a year later.

The 16-year-old recently passed his Junior Competitive Level 10 Test which means he can now skate at senior level and he is part of the Hampshire Talented Athlete scheme.

Newbury’s Pattenden (17) trains at Bracknell with Peed and also his old home rink of Basingstoke with Baekgaard.

Before heading to Sheffield, Gill, Parrington-Tyler and Patterson can be seen in action performing as part of the Basingstoke Ice Skating Charity Show team at Wilton Shopping Villages temporary rink tomorrow.

Last weekend, the Basingstoke Ice Skating Club launched their Christmas tour at Winchester Cathedrals’ Christmas Fairs opening weekend.

The group of skaters, who range in age from 10 to 25, were given the freedom to choreograph a number of pieces with a wide range inspiration.

The result of their hard work comes in the form of a six week tour performing on temporary rinks around Wilton and Winchester. The tour supports charities such as Salisbury Hospice Charity, who offer nursing and support to thousands, and Global’s Make Some Noise, a charity who help to change young lives in need.

Show Team Co-ordinator, Rob Williams said: “Our aim as a club has been to engage with the community and show our skaters what amazing things they can achieve.

“The opportunity to raise money for charity has opened many doors, it has been hard work but we have all thrived on the process. It is great to use skating to help the community and give back in our own little way.”

The tour continues at Winchester on December 4 and 17 (6.40pm) and the Wilton Charity gala for Salisbury on December 28 and January 2 2016 (2pm).

Basingstoke-born skater Danielle Harrison, who trains in Dundee, will also be competing in the British Championships skating at the senior level.
