WE WERE less then a second away from another four-point weekend in our game against Peterborough on Sunday.

We were gutted when they tied the score and I still feel gutted as I write this. But three points out of four against two of the strongest teams in the league was a fair reward for our best defensive performance.

It is often the goal scorers who hit the headlines, but every player has responsibilities. The whole team can take pride in giving up only two goals.

Playing in front of our net minder, Tomas Hiadlovsky, who was outstanding in both games, gives everyone confidence. Tomas has got the measure of playing in this league now and fully deserved to win man of the match in both games.

We came out a little flat against Milton Keynes but soon got into our own game. There were two moments when the momentum shifted our way and they both occurred when we were defending. Joe Rand scored a short-handed goal and then the team successfully killed off a five-on-three penalty.

So our unbeaten home run continues, to the obvious delight of the fans. The players feed off their energy and involvement as the game develops.

They really get behind the team when we have taken penalties. That’s an area of our play, however, which we need to improve. Five on five, we are a match for any team, but playing short-handed is exhausting and affects the energy and pace you bring to the next few shifts.

On Friday we play Guildford at home and we then travel to Milton Keynes, two sides well placed in the league.

We look forward to continuing our good form and burying our memory of that awful end to the game in Peterborough.
