WINNING both games last weekend secured third place in the league and gives us the choice of when to play the home tie in the play-off quarter-finals.

The previous week, Swindon had beaten us on our own ice, so it was especially sweet to travel to their rink last Saturday and come away with an 8-4 win.

Although they had stopped us equalling a club record for the number of successive home wins, Ciaran Long was in record-breaking mood. His four goals in Swindon were the most scored by a British player in the Club’s EPL history.

Obviously, the team played well and it was one of those evenings when everything went our way.

We’ve worked just as hard and played as well in other games this season, but have not always been rewarded. It was a great performance, enjoyed by the players and our travelling fans alike.

Sunday night saw our last league game on home ice. We wanted to end the season on a high and to make clear to the fans how much their support is appreciated.

We felt very positive after our away win.

Although we won this game, the hockey was not as free-flowing as on Saturday. We built up a quick lead against Milton Keynes, but after they called a time out, the game became more physical.

I’ve written in my diary before about how players need to be protected from deliberate attempts to injure. Chris Wiggins, when playing for Bracknell, delivered the punch that has cost Matt Selby his season.

On Sunday, he was taking liberties again and Muzzy (Michael) Wales did an amazing job standing up for his team-mates.

Joe Greener’s goals and Ciaran Long’s short-handed goal made sure we took full points from the weekend.

See you at the play-off matches in two weeks’ time.

All the best,

Doug
