THE Basingstoke Bison will look to collect their second piece of silverware of the season, when they take on the Peterborough Phantoms in the final of the South One play-offs.

The league champions will play the away leg first in Peterborough on Saturday (7pm), before returning home on Sunday (5.30pm) to hopefully pick up the trophy in front of their own fans.

The Bison made to the final showdown thanks to a 7-4 win at the London Raiders, followed by a 3-0 victory on home ice in which Dean Skinns collected a record breaking eighth shut-out in a season for the Herd.

The other semi-final was not so straight forward, as Swindon won the first leg 4-2 on home ice against Peterborough, but due to the fact they had a player on the gamesheet, who had not played enough league games to qualify to play in the play-offs.

The game was reversed to a 5-0 victory to the Phantoms and despite Swindon winning the second leg 6-4, Peterborough went through 9-6.

So the top two sides in the South One will clash one last time this season and during the league campaign, there was nothing to choose between the two sides, as all four games were decided by a single goal.

Experienced defenceman Joe Baird will miss the weekend for the Bison.

Herd head coach Doug Sheppard said: “We are familiar with Peterborough and both sides have won in each others buildings, so I am expecting a very close and exciting weekend.”

Victory last Sunday, also booked the Bison a place in the National play-off finals at Coventry on the weekend of April 7 and 8.

Here the south play-off finalists Basingstoke and Peterborough, will face their north counterparts Sheffield and Telford, with the semi-final line-up still to be decided.
