THE Basingstoke Bison beat the visiting Invicta Dynamos 6-0, to put themselves into a great position to make the final four of the South One play-offs.

Having beaten the Kent side 10-1 just seven days earlier in the league, the Herd were made to work harder this time around.

The opening session saw neither side able to open the scoring, but as they did last week, a superb second session made sure of a Bison victory.

Defenceman Stuart Mogg broke the deadlock at 23:05, as he fired home and then Tomas Karpov from the slot made it 2-0 on the powerplay four minutes later, as Dan Davies and Aaron Connolly picked up the assists.

Davies was again the provider for goal number three as Karpov slotted home, past Invicta man of the match Damien King.

The final penalty of the middle session, saw Dan Scott hit the post with a blue line blast, before man of the match Kurt Reynolds fired into the roof of the net.

The final session, saw the Kent side try to break Dean Skinns shut-out with Steve Osman and Louis Colvin forcing saves.

The Bison extended their lead to 5-0 at 54:39, after good work from Grant Rounding saw him find Elliot Dewey and he set-up Malinik to score.

It was left to Bison birthday boy Ryan Sutton to complete the scoring as hammered home Paul Petts' rebound.

After the game, the Bison were presented with the league championship trophy.

The Herd travel to Gillingham in Kent this evening, looking to complete the job and set-up a semi-final clash with either the London Raiders or the Bracknell Bees.

In their first leg last night, London won 6-5 at the Hive.

In the other side of the draw, Peterborough enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Milton Keynes and Swindon won in Streatham 2-0.

On Friday night, Swindon denied the Bison a second trophy in the space of a week with a 4-2 victory in the second leg of the Autumn Cup final in Wiltshire, to complete a 7-3 aggregate win.

The Herd 3-1 down from the first leg, found there was no way back after Sam Bullas and Phil Hill both scored in the first 20 minutes.

Hallam Wilson with the Bison’s opening goal gave them a lifeline, but Edgars Bebris made it 3-1 at the second buzzer.

The Herd scored the first goal of the final session from Reynolds at 50:29, before an empty net strike from Aaron Nell gave the Wildcats their first trophy for 21 years.
