IVAN Antonov scored four times as the Basingstoke Bison beat the visiting Hull Pirates 7-1.

The teenage British forward was back in the Bison line-up, along with Stuart Mogg, after a fortnight away playing for the Great Britain university team.

It took him just five minutes to score his opening goal, as he netted his own rebound.

The home side doubled their lead shorthanded with Matt Towalski in the sin bin for hooking, as Ciaran Long took the puck from his own end zone and his slide rule pass was put away by Tomas Karpov.

This was Long’s second point of the game, having also picked up an assist on the opening goal, which made him the Bison’s all time top points scorer for the EPL.

There were no more goals in the first 20 minutes as the Bison took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room.

The second session was only four minutes old, when Towalski was dismissed for spearing Lee Bonner in the chest.

This was after the two players tangled and had referee Roman Szucs stopped the play earlier, the penalty would never have happened.

This gave Hull a five minute powerplay and a great chance to get back into the contest.

However, a nice pass off the boards from Bison’s Joe Baird released Derek Roehl and he scored the Herd’s third goal of the night and their second shorthanded at 26:58.

The home side killed off the major penalty, but soon after Hull man of the match Josh Gent scored to make it 3-1.

The Bison hit back and after good spade work from Davies, Antonov with a back hand finish added his side’s fourth goal of the night.

The same player then skated off the bench to ghost into the attack unmarked and rifle in a pass from Long to complete his hat-trick, 26.8 seconds before the second buzzer.

With the contest over and going into the final period, it was now up to referee Szucs to keep control of the game as the match became a lot more chippy.

Just two minutes into the session, the Herd lost Dan Scott to injury, as he was crashed into the boards by Ugnius Cizas.

Tempers then started to boil over with Roehl and Hull’s Andrej Themar exchanging cross checks at the home bench, which resulted in a scrum involving a number of players and four were sent to the sin bin.

Soon after, Nathem Salem decided to do some face washing on Kurt Reynolds which earned both delay of game penalties, which were now being called as if it was the only penalty in the rule book.

Just two minutes later, Karpov had his legs crudely taken away from him, behind the Hull net by Bonner. Having got back to his feet to confront the Pirates’ forward, he was cross checked, which earnt Bonner a 2+2 penalty.

Rene Jarolin scored on the first powerplay with a nice wrist shot and then man of the match Antonov completed a great night as he scored his fourth of the evening on the second powerplay to complete the scoring.

Tonight, these sides clash again, this time in Hull and the Bison will be without the injured Scott and suspended Towalski.
