BEFORE last weekend, our only win in December was against the League leaders, Telford Tigers. We had lost our other three games, so it was important that we won both games against our local rivals, Bracknell Bees.

Saturday’s game in front of our own fans was more closely fought than the return game on Sunday in Bracknell. With a home win behind us, we deserved our 7 – 2 win. We’ve conceded the lowest goals against in the league, but I’ve mentioned before that we need start finding ways to produce offensivly. I’m sure the guys will take confidence from their weekend performance.

As we look forward to the second half of the season, it’s clear that we need to play with more consistency. Of course, you’re always striving for a perfect game, but that’s impossible to achieve in Ice Hockey. Our perfection needs to be consistency, playing our systems and giving our best effort every shift.

The next few weeks will be a good test of this. After playing Swindon at home on Boxing Day, we have consecutive road games against Swindon, Guildford and Milton Keynes.

One young man, Vanya Antonov, has done more travelling than the rest of the team this month. He rejoined the team on Sunday, having represented his country in games in Hungary. Unfortunately the GB team failed to win any of their games against difficult opposition.

Many thanks to our fans for supporting our Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday. Your generosity will be appreciated by a lot of children.

Like you, we’ll be rushing round this week to get ready to celebrate Christmas. Some of our team will be travelling home to join their families, but we’re all looking forward to take to the ice again next Monday.

See you all then. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
