THE Basingstoke Bison extended their winning streak to five games, with their third consecutive 3-1 victory, this time over the visiting Peterborough Phantoms.

It was the visitors, who started the game the better, as the Herd attack finally got going, when they were given their first powerplay of the night.

Ciaran Long, Rene Jarolin and Aaron Connolly all then forced Adam Long into good saves.

Soon after, the Herd were given another man advantage and once again dominated with Derek Roehl and Jan Jarabek both being denied.

The home side finally broke the deadlock at 18:34, thanks to some individual magic from man of the match Roehl.

The forward skated the length of the rink and despite Robert Ferrara hauling him down, he still managed to get his shot away and score.

The second period was just a minute old, when the Bison were given another powerplay.

They made full use of it, as Roehl with a blue line bullet found the back of the net to make it 2-0 at 22:52.

With the teams down to four-on-four, Peterborough hauled themselves back into the contest.

A nice flowing passing move saw Darius Pliskauskas and James Archer combine for Ales Padelek to score.

The teams then swapped powerplay chances, with the Herd having the better of them as Connolly, Roehl and Vanya Antonov went close.

The final period saw the Herd start it the better as they looked for a third goal with Tomas Karpov nearly scoring. A very tame penalty against Antonov, gave Peterborough a powerplay and Petr Stepanek tested Tomas Hiadlovsky.

As the tension grew and with both sides searching for a goal, Marc Levers was denied by a smart save from Hiadlovsky.

With 74 seconds left, the Bison finally put the contest to bed, as Rene Jarolin released Matt Towalski and he skated away to beat Long one-on-one.

At this point, Peterborough called a time out and pulled their goalie soon after, but they were unable to score and Roehl just missed the empty net as the buzzer sounded.

This evening (5pm), the Bison are on the road to Blackpool to face the Manchester Phoenix, who moved off the bottom of the EPL after a victory in Guildford last night.
