THE Basingstoke Bison completed a weekend pre-season double over their local rivals the Guildford Flames thanks to a 2-0 victory at the Spectrum on Sunday night.

The Herd had the previous evening won 5-1 over the same opposition on home ice, but this time Tomas Hiadlovsky was not denied a shut out as he turned away all 29 shots he faced.

The opening goal in the contest came at 28:22, as the forward line of Petr Polodna, Ciaran Long and Vanya Antonov struck again, as they had done in he first game between the sides.

Man of the match Antonov scored with Polodna and Long picking up the assists.

The Flames tried their hardest to equalise, and with 75 seconds left they pulled their goalie Richard Ullberg for the extra skater.

The move back fired as Shaun Thompson found Tomas Karpov to slot into the empty net at 59:47.

The Bison complete their pre-season campaign on Wednesday night (7.30pm) when they have their return game with the Swindon Wildcats.

The Herd start their defence of their league title on Saturday when the Telford Tigers are the visitors.
