THE Basingstoke Bison have added even more firepower to their line-up with the double re-signing of British forwards Grant Rounding and Daniel Lackey.

Both are Basingstoke-based and started their careers in the Hampshire side’s junior development.

Rounding will return for the third straight campaign with the Herd and due to a spate of injuries missed most of the last campaign.

Bison fans were given a glimmer of what the Johannesburg-born forward could do when he returned at the end of their championship winning campaign and scored in the play-offs.

The 25-year-old forward will now be looking for a healthy year in a Herd jersey.

The speedy winger will be hoping to pick up on the form he showed for the Bracknell Bees when he scored 11 times in season 2013/14.

Lackey joined the Bison from the Buffalo late last season when the Herd suffered an injury crisis and he did not look out of place in the line-up.

The 26-year-old finished the year with three assists from 16 games after scoring a goal a game for the Buffalo.

The Basingstoke-born player had previous short spells with the team in 2009/2010 and 2010/11, but this will be his first full season with the Herd.

Talking about the latest additions to the Bison, head coach Doug Sheppard said: “Both players bring something different to the line-up. Grant (Rounding) is a great skater and his speed causes turn overs. He has had a couple of tough years with injuries and he deserves a good year.

Sheppard added: “Dan is a player who likes to the play the body and has an aggressive approach to the game. He certainly helped out the team when he came in.”

Returning forward Rounding cannot wait for the season to start again and said: “I was really disappointed when last season ended, as I was just hitting some form. I will be training hard during the summer to make sure I have the leg speed which is such an important part to my game.”

Lackey is also pleased to be returning and said: “I trained last year and then due to injuries was given the opportunity to play.

“I did not expect the amount of ice time I was given.

“I am fittest I have ever been and look forward to playing my part again next season and winning some trophies.”
