THE Basingstoke Bison are now just two wins away from making it a double winning season, as they head to Coventry this weekend for the play-off finals.

The English Premier League champions will take on the Milton Keynes Lightning in the opening game of the weekend on Saturday which starts at 1pm.

The second semi-final between the Peterborough Phantoms and the Guildford Flames is scheduled to start at 5pm.

The winners of these two games will then meet to decide the last piece of silverware up for grabs in the EPL this season in the final at the Skydome on Sunday (4pm).

The Herd were last victorious in the play-offs in Coventry in 2014, when they beat the Manchester Phoenix in the final.

The Bison saw off the Phoenix in clinical style last weekend in their quarter-finals clash.

This sets up a winner takes all clash against the Lightning, who were beat Telford in their last eight match-up.

The Bison will be without their injured captain Aaron Connolly for the semi-final.

This weekend will also be the last in a Herd jersey for their popular British forward Joe Greener, before he heads to the States.

All four teams now left in the competition will feel they have a chance of winning the play-offs and the Bison had the edge over MK during the league series as they came out on top 4-2.

They won all three games on home ice and one away and Bison coach Doug Sheppard said: “When we won in MK this season it was a real play-off game and I want us to play the same way again on Saturday.

“They are a good team, but we are playing well at the moment and are now just two games away from winning our second trophy of the season.”

“We were the best team over 54 games that is why we won the league, but now we are down to just two games and anyone of the four teams is in with a chance.”

The Lightning will no doubt be keen for success this weekend after announcing that next season with be their last in the EPL, before they move up to the Elite League.
