THE Basingstoke Bison were presented with the English Premier League trophy, after they beat their local rivals Guildford Flames on Sunday night.

The Herd made it a night to remember for their star British forward Joe Greener in his last league game, as he was given a guard of honour before the game and did a lap of honour after it, before the league trophy was presented.

The Bison wrapped their league campaign with a victory despite missing Aaron Connolly, Ryan Watt and Joe Baird. while Guildford decided to rest their import netminder Richard Ullberg and go with four import forwards.

The home side had the better of he opening 20 minutes and Tomas Karpov netted with a low shot at 6:47.

Shaun Thompson with a great wrist shot made it 2-0, this was seconds after Declan Balmer had cleared the puck out of the Bison goal crease after the puck squeezed under the pads of goalie Tomas Hiadlovsky.

In a even second session, the teams were reduced to four-on-four, as Greener took matters into his own hands as he held by Jens Erkison, which was ignored by referee Stephen Matthews. This earned both players a two minute rest in the sin bin.

During the four-on-four a great individual strike from Matt Towe made it 3-1, but the Herd hit back as Alan Lack scored his side's third goal as he skated around the back of the net, before putting the puck in at the near post.

Guildford came close to scoring a second as Matic Kralj cracked a shot off the post.

The final period saw both sides have chances, but there were no more goals and the Bison then celebrated lifting the EPL trophy.

The Bison will now turn their attentions to winning the play-offs and they will face the Manchester Phoenix in the quarter-finals with the home leg on Sunday (6pm).
