BASINGSTOKE Town go in search of their first league double of the season, as they travel to Whitehawk on Saturday.

The Dragons won their first league game of the season over the Sussex side, as they scored twice late on in a 3-1 victory.

In that game, Chris Flood, Simon Dunn and Lloyd Macklin were on target and Aaron Howe made a number of good saves to keep out the visitors, who were flying high at the time.

Since then they slide down the table and on Saturday came back from 2-1 down at Dartford to win 4-2, their first win in 10 games. On Tuesday night, they lost 2-1 at Bishop’s Stortford, which leaves them 16th, which puts them four points above the drop zone.

Town’s last outing was a 1-1 home draw with Havant and Waterlooville, which kept them eight points from safety and five points a drift at the bottom with nine games to play.

The Dragons roared back after going a goal down right on half time and Gilkes said: “We showed really determination and battled away in the second-half and deserved our point.”

The introduction of substitutes Louie Soares and Glen Southam certainly added bite to the team and Gilkes admitted he would make his selection more difficult for the trip to Whitehawk. The Town boss will still be without injured trio Harrison Gilkes, Jamie Brown and David Ray.

Gilkes said: “Whitehawk were excellent last time we played them, but we need to get the three points again this weekend as games are running out.”
