ANOTHER sell-out crowd packed into the ice rink on Saturday night to watch us take a huge two points against last year’s League champions, Telford Tigers.

Two goals by our captain, Aaron Connolly, established our dominance in the first period. Ciaran Long timed a pass to perfection to allow Aaron to blast the first goal.

He then tipped in a shot by Declan Balmer for our second.

The flow of the game was spoiled in the second period by a number of penalty calls but the team kept a firm grip on the game with a disciplined team performance.

Aaron deservedly won his man of the match award. As well as his goals, he played a real captain’s role, leading the team despite carrying an injury, as we push hard for a league title.

This week we welcome Joe Greener back into the line-up as we face Hull. We’ve got a great home record this season and this is another opportunity to get two points, if we play with the same focus and intensity.

Once the puck drops, league placings are irrelevant, as Swindon found out last week when beaten in a high-scoring game against Hull.

They’re a well-organised side who have made big strides since joining the league. Beating the league leaders on our own ice would make their long journey worthwhile.

Of course, fans are delighted to be caught up in our success on the ice. This is celebrated in the excellent video highlights package produced each week by Adrian Parsons.

So it’s no wonder we’re selling out each week. We’re especially pleased to welcome newcomers to the sport who’ve managed to get the hottest tickets in Basingstoke. See you Saturday.
