BASINGSTOKE Buffalo netminder Jordan Lawday celebrated his selection for the Great Britain under-18 team as he back stopped his side to a 4-2 victory over the Bristol Pitbulls.

Lawday is one of two goalies selected for the under-18 side which will travel to World Championships which take place in Brasov, Romania in early April.

Great Britain will start their quest for a gold medal and promotion out of Division Two Group A, with a game against Lithuania on Monday April 4.

The following day they face Croatia and then on Thursday April 7, they play the Netherlands.

GB’s last two games, will see them face Poland on the Friday and then the hosts on the Sunday in the final game of the tournament.

Lawday has been selected for the team after a string of excellent performances for the Buffalo which has included two shut-outs this season.

The 4-2 win over Bristol moved the Buffalo into joint top spot of the South Two West.

In a hard fought contest, the home side opened the scoring at 17:43 as Daniel Lackey scored assisted by Mark Pitts.

The visitors were first to strike in the second period, but the Buffalo restored their lead as man of the match Liam Coleman scored assisted by Lackey and Pitts 21 seconds before the second buzzer.

The Buffalo then made it 3-1 as Pitts converted a pass from defenceman Dave Collins.

The home side added a fourth goal at 51:06 as Ashley Skinns scored on the powerplay from Lackey and Collins.

Bristol pulled a goal back three minutes from time.

The Buffalo are next in action on Saturday, at home against the Wightlink Tigers and has a 6.30pm face-off.
