THE Basingstoke Buffalo missed out on a place in the National Ice Hockey League semi-finals as they were beaten 6-2 by the Islanders who now join Chelmsford in the final four of the competition.
It was the visiting Buffalo who took the lead as Ryan Sutton completed an excellent move which involved Paul Petts and Hallam Wilson.
The home side hit back to lead 2-1 at the first buzzer as Bradley Moore and Nathan Pollard both scored.
There was only one goal in the middle session of the game as Moore grabbed his second of the match at 34:56.
Shaun Yardley extended the lead to 4-1 early in the final period, but 13 seconds later the Buffalo replied as man of the match Mark Pitts netted from Daniel Lackey and Neil Leary.
The Islanders made sure of the victory their eighth on the trot as Connor Stokes and Conor Pollard were on target.
The Buffalo return to South Two West action this Sunday when they play host to the league’s current leaders the Bristol Pitbulls.
