In a season which has 54 games, the need for consistency was made clear to us when we lost heavily in an away game to Milton Keynes. It was important to get back on track last weekend, so we were pleased to take all four points against Sheffield and Swindon.

We knew our away game against Sheffield would be difficult, especially after once again giving up an early goal. We came back well, our goaltender Tomas Hiadlovsky made some big saves down the stretch for us. Aaron Connolly’s goal in the third period was enough for us to secure the two points.

Alan Lack was unable to play at the weekend, so I had called on Jacob Ranson and Ryan Sutton to step up for us. The availability of young players able and willing to come in and play a full part against older and more experienced players is a strength of Bison hockey. Our fans especially enjoy watching them develop.

They also appreciate the contribution of our import players. Miroslav Vantroba spent the week back in Slovakia to be with his wife who had delivered their second child, and returned in time to score his first goal of the season against Swindon on Sunday. Congratulations, Miro, on both counts.

Of course, what the fans most enjoy is watching their team winning at home, so our seventh successive home win was celebrated loudly.

What the team most enjoyed was putting together their best defensive performance of the season, in both the defensive and neutral zone. That’s how we like to play – defend well and take our scoring chances when they come our way.

We were the only one of the top four teams to get maximum points last weekend. We’re back on track and we’ll be working hard to keep improving.

See you Saturday.
