THE Basingstoke Bison completed a great four point weekend with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Swindon Wildcats on Sunday night.

Swindon arrived in Hampshire after an excellent 7-4 victory over the Guildford Flames, the first game in charge for new player/coach Aaron Nell.

Sunday’s game started well for the Wildcats, as they opened the scoring in the fourth minute as the impressive Corey McEwen set-up Sam Bullas to score.

The Herd hit back and levelled things at 6:29 as Joe Greener scored from close range.

In what was an even opening 20 minutes thanks to three Swindon powerplays, Stuart Mogg made it 2-1 to the home side as he converted an excellent pass from Greener.

The middle session saw the Herd start to dominate the game and they made it 3-1 soon after the interval, as Ciaran Long fired in a great wrist shot from the left wing.

The Bison added a fourth when Shaun Thompson netted from close range after Kurt Reynolds shot from the blue line shot had been blocked.

The dismissal of McEwen for high sticks on Kurt Reynolds saw the Bison camped in the Swindon end for the whole of the five minute powerplay, but they were unable to add to their tally.

The final 20 minutes saw few clear cut chances, but the Bison did add a fifth goal after Miroslav Vantroba jumped up into the play and scored his first goal of the season, as he finished a nice move which involved Aaron Connolly and Tomas Karpov.

The game boiled over in the final minute with five players (two from the Bison and three from the Wildcats) being sent to the penalty box, which was sparked by a slashing by Carlo Finucci.

The Herd are next in action on Saturday (6.30pm) when they entertain the Manchester Phoenix.
