THE Basingstoke Bison bounced back to winning ways with a 3-2 victory at the Sheffield Steeldogs last night.

The Herd who released British forward JJ Pitchley on Friday, did not get off to the best of starts as Sheffield import and man of the match Arnoldas Bosas scored after 25 seconds.

The Herd’s Tomas Karpov then hit the post and the Steeldogs went close on a couple of powerplays.

On the Bison’s third powerplay of the period, the visitors equalised as Declan Balmer scored from the blue line assisted by Shaun Thompson.

In the second session the Bison took the lead as Joe Greener converted a pass from man of the match Stuart Mogg.

Sheffield levelled things at 37:49 from Lubomir Korhon and then had a great chance to take the lead, when Thompson joined Karpov in the sin bin.

The Bison killed off the two man advantage and then scored the game winning goal from club captain Aaron Connolly at 50:30.

A grandstand finish saw Sheffield pull their goalie in the final seconds, but they were unable to force the game into overtime.

The Herd are in action again tonight (5.30pm) when they face the Swindon Wildcats.

The Wiltshire side won 7-4 at home to Guildford last night in what was Aaron Nell’s first game in charge as player/coach.

The game also saw the return of star import Jonas Hoog and they will provide a stiff test for the Bison this evening.
