CAIN Russell hit a hat-trick as the Basingstoke Under-13 Bison claimed a 4-1 win over the visiting Peterborough Phantoms.

Russell opened the scoring unassisted and while the visitors hit back to level at 1-1, Russell’s second of the night, assisted by Jakub Marczyk, put the Bison back in front.

Charlie Wedge and Harry Brooks then combined to set up Russell for his hat-trick goal, with Samuel Jasper Hemming-Maher completing the scoring unassisted late on.

The under-18s lost 7-2 away at Bracknell, while the Buffalo began their campaign with a defeat, losing 3-0 at home to the visiting Cardiff Fire.

The Buffalo will be hoping to bounce back and claim their first win of the season next Saturday, when they host the Bristol Pitbulls in their second game of the campaign.

The under-20s led 4-2 and 6-4 at home to Oxford, but were pegged back by the visitors in the closing stages and drew 6-6.

Matthew Levy netted twice, with Connor Hutchinson, Josh Richards, Cameron Buckle and Elliott Sherwood-Clarke also scoring.
