FOUR Basingstoke junior players, Cain Russell, Sam Childs, Emily Harris and Oliver Bower, have been selected to play for England.

Russell has been selected for the under-13 team that will travel to Quebec, while Childs and Bower will play for the under-14 team.

Harris has been selected for the girls under-16 team.

Forward Russell joined from the Bison from Solent and Gosport this season and has made a big impression already, netting a hat-trick in his debut appearance.

Although still only a first year at under-13, Russell possesses excellent skating skills for someone so young and combines soft hands with a sniper shot.

Thirteen-year-old Childs is enjoying his second spell as a Junior Bison netminder after having a season on loan at Swindon.

He is the current under-15 goalie and has previously represented Basingstoke at under-10, under-12 and under-14 levels.

Bower joined the Junior Bison at the start of the 2014/15 season after spending time living in Chicago.

The imposing defender has a fluid skating style and a big shot to match his physique.

Forward Harris has been part of the Junior Bison programme from an early age, progressing through the club with great success at each level.

A regular 20-goal-a-season player, Harris possesses excellent skills and tenacity to complement her speed.

As well as playing for England under-16s, she is training with the Great Britain girls under-16 team and also represents Hampshire at field hockey.

Junior Bison head coach Ryan Cathcart said: “We have a number of very talented players coming through the Junior Bison programme.

“These four players have worked really hard and deserve to be recognised.

"We are very proud of their success.”
