THE Basingstoke Buffalo ice hockey team enjoyed a 5-3 success in their opening pre-season game last weekend.

It was a good win as well, coming against local rivals the Solent Devils, who play in the league above the Buffalo.

Basingstoke Bison players Stuart Mogg and netminder Dan Weller-Evans were added to the home squad.

It was Mogg who scored the opening two goals for the Buffalo, as they came back from a goal down to lead 2-1 at the first buzzer.

Ryan Sutton made it 3-1 assisted by Ashley Skinns and then Daniel Lackey further extended the lead for the home side.

Solent scored either side of the second break to make it 4-3, but new signing Warren Jones made sure of the victory as he netted the Buffalo’s fifth, assisted by Sutton and Greg Martyn.

Weller-Evans took over from Chris Edwards in the Buffalo goal with 29 minutes left on the clock.

The Buffalo are next at home on September 27, when they entertain Chelmsford Warriors in their opening game of their South Two Cup group.
