BASINGSTOKE ice hockey players helped the South West Conference to a hat-trick of titles at the Conference finals at Ice Sheffield last weekend.

Four Basingstoke Bison players, Sam Childs, Oliver Bower, Emily Harris and Travis Penny, were part of the victorious under-13 team.

Guildford Flames player Josh Kelly, who lives in Harrow Way, helped the under-15 side to take the crown in their age group.

Bison under-18s Hallam Wilson and Jordan Lawday, along with Darren Stattersfield, who has been training with the under-18s, were part of the winning under-17 team.

The under-13 team were the first to taste victory as they beat the South East 3-1 in the final. Penny scored the team’s third goal, while defenceman Bower picked up an assist on their opener.

In the group stages, the South West opened up with a 2-1 win over the Midlands, but then suffered a 3-0 reverse to Scotland.

They returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over arch rivals the South East, as Penny scored and Harris assisted on the game-winning goal, before making sure of top spot with a 2-0 win over the North.

In the under-15 final, the South West beat the Midlands 4-1 to take the crown.

The team was unbeaten throughout the tournament, beating the Midlands 2-1 and the South East 8-3, with defenceman Kelly picking up an assist. A 5-5 draw against Scotland was followed by a 4-1 success over the North as they topped their group.

At under-17 level, the South West beat the South East 5-1 in the final, with Stattersfield getting an assist.

The team had beaten the Midlands 2-0, Scotland 6-1 and the North 2-0 in the group stages. They lost 2-0 to the South East but got revenge in the final.
