THE Basingstoke under-14 Bison extended their unbeaten run to nine games as they finished their season as runners-up in South Two.

The young herd wrapped up their campaign with a double header weekend which saw them win 7-1 at home to the Solent and Gosport Hunters after drawing 2-2 at Oxford on Saturday night.

In their Hampshire derby game on Sunday afternoon, it was the visiting Hunters who took the lead in the fourth minute.

the Bison hit back to level things by the first buzzer thanks to Emily Harris.

The home side then dominated the next two periods and just over a minute after the break, Oliver Bower broke out of defence and centred for Elliot Lewis to score.

The young Herd then made it 3-1, as Harris netted her second of the game assisted by spirit-of-the-game winner Rubi Escandell.

The Bison completed a 3-0 second session after Sam Hemmings-Maher's pass sent Lewis clear and he fired into the roof of the net.

The goal kept coming in the final period from Travis Penny, Lewis with his hat-trick strike, before William Birch completed the scoring. Matthew West picked for the Bison's man-of-the-match award.

The previous night in Oxford the visiting Herd were out of the blocks quickly as Birch scored after 50 seconds.

Harris then doubled their lead at 17:07, but the home side pulled a goal back two minutes later and then grabbed the equaliser four minutes from time.

Netminder Sam Childs was the Bison's man-of-the-match and Sam Stephens was the spirit-of-the-game winner.

Six Bison players will be in action for the South West Conference team this weekend, as they take on the South East, Midlands, North and Scotland in the annual round-robin tournament.

Harris, Bower, Childs and Penny have been selected for the under-13 team, while Jordan Lawday and Hallam Wilson will play for the under17 side.

The under-17 South West Conference side warmed up for the event with a trip to Tallinn, Estonia last weekend, which saw them finish runners-up in the under-18 Olumpia Cup.

The Brits lost in the final 1-0 after overtime against Kiekki-67 from Turku in Finland, as Lawday came so close to picking up his second shut-out of the tournament.

His first had come in the opening group game against the same Finnish side which ended 0-0.

The South West side then enjoyed three wins in the group stage over Tornaado Group from Tallinn (4-2), Red Wings of Helsinki (4-2) and Blues from Espoo in Finland (2-0).
