THE Basingstoke under-14 Bison extended their unbeaten run to three games as a depleted Herd won 3-1 at the Isle of Wight Raiders.

Man-of-the-match William Birch scored the opening goal 59 seconds into the second period as he latched on to a stray pass.

The home side levelled things four minutes later, but the Bison were not to be denied the lead at the second buzzer as Elliot Lewis scored with a nice finish.

The Bison thought they had scored a third goal, but spirit of the game winner Sam Stephens’ effort was disallowed.

The visitors had the better of the start of the final session, but Herd netminder Sam Childs kept them out.

The visitors then extended their lead to 3-1 thanks to a great strike from captain Thomas Banner.

The Bison ended the game with a couple of powerplays, but were unable to add to their tally as Matthew West, Adam Castles, Alex Burns and Alfie Taylor all went close.

The Herd defence, comprising Oliver Bower, Oliver Reeves, Joshua Smith and Banner, had a fine game as they limited the Isle of Wight team to just 10 shots.
