STUART Mogg scored his first goal of the season as the Basingstoke Bison enjoyed a 5-3 win at the Hive over the Bracknell Bees.

The night also proved to be extra special for Overton’s Thomas Beesley as the former Bison junior scored his first-ever senior goal for Bracknell.

It was the Bison who dominated the first 20 minutes in a game in which both sides only had three imports, as the Herd’s Tomas Karpov and Bracknell’s Lukas Smital were both force to sit out.

Man-of-the-match Grant Rounding opened the scoring in the fifth minute as he combined with fellow Brits Andy Melachrino and Ryan Watt.

The only powerplay of the night for the visitors saw Bracknell’s import defenceman Pavel Strycek depart to the sin bin and Aaron Connolly scored on the powerplay to make it 2-0 at the first buzzer.

Bracknell took just 21 seconds of the second session to open their account as a pass from Bees’ man-of-the-match Beesley was converted by Radek Hubacek.

The Herd hit back as Cameron Wynn netted from a Kurt Reynolds pass and then Ciaran Long hammered home to make it 4-1 at 27:54.

As the period entered the final minute, Long was sent to the sin bin for cross checking, but despite being shorthanded, Mogg was able to score as he finished off a nice move which involved Joe Greener and Doug Sheppard.

This made it 5-1 to the Bison at the second break, the Bees never gave-up and at 47:37 Beesley fired home for his first senior goal.

The home side then pulled another goal back with a powerplay strike from Sam Waller with nine minutes left.

The Bees were now buzzing and the Herd had to kill off two further powerplays to make sure of the victory.

The Bison will look to record another road win on Saturday when they travel to Swindon for a game which looks set to decide which team will finish third in the English Premier League this season.
