BASINGSTOKE Bison completed their English Challenge Cup campaign with a 7-2 victory at Wightlink Raiders.

The Herd were minus Doug Sheppard, Tomas Karpov, Andy Melachrino and Grant Rounding, while missing for the Raiders were Jeremy Cornish and Richard Facey.

The visitors took the lead after 65 seconds from Nicky Chinn and then Ciaran Long made it 2-0 by the first buzzer.

The second session saw the Bison score twice more in the space of 27 seconds, as Long fired through the legs of former Herd netminder Matt Colclough and then Rand netted with a shot from the wing.

At this point, Colclough was replaced in the Wightlink net by Shannon Long for the rest of the game.

The home side finally found a way past former Raiders’ goalie Dan Weller-Evans, as Alex Barker opened their account, assisted by ex-Bison men Craig Tribe and Jaroslav Cesky.

Man-of-the-match Long fired past his younger brother to complete his hat-trick which made it 5-1 at the second buzzer.

Bison’s Miroslav Vantroba finished a nice move, which involved Cameron Wynn and Stuart Mogg for his side’s sixth goal of the game at 42:07.

The scoring was then completed thanks to an unassisted strike from Wightlink’s Corey Watkins and Wynn, who netted Brendan Baird’s rebound.

Today, the Bison return to league action with Swindon Wildcats the visitors in a game which has a 5.30pm face-off.
