BASINGSTOKE Bison snapped their recent losing streak with a 3-2 penalty-shot victory at Bracknell Bees.

The home side were still minus their top import Lucas Smital, while for the Bison Matt Selby was out injured and captain Nicky Chinn suspended.

The Bees scored the only goal of the first period, thanks to Radek Hubacek on Bracknell’s first powerplay of the night.

This advantage was doubled, when former Bison Danny Ingoldsby, made the most of bad bounce off the back boards to slot into an empty net.

Two minutes later, the Bison netted their first of the night, as Doug Sheppard netted from close range.

The Herd then hit the equaliser on the powerplay with a blue line blast from their man-of-the-match Joe Baird.

Both sides went looking for the winner in the final period, but goalies Alex Mettam and Dean Skinns kept them out.

Skinns produced the save of the session to deny Hubacek with a breakaway chance.

With no further scoring the game went to overtime and the Bees were given a great chance to win the game, after Miroslav Vantroba departed to the sin bin for tripping Matt Foord.

However, the Herd killed off the penalty and so the game was decided by penalty shots.

First up was the Bison’s Joe Rand and he missed, before Hubacek saw his shot saved.

Ciaran Long then scored with a superb finish to put the Bison ahead and Skinns came up with another save to deny Jan Bendik.

With the tension mounting, Bees’ goalie Alex Mettam denied Tomas Karpov, which left Ryan Watt needing to score to take the shoot-out into sudden death.

Unfortunately, the British forward fired wide to give the Bison the win.

The Herd will now look to make it four point weekend, when they face Guildford Flames at home tonight (face-off 5.30pm).
