LAST weekend, we put together our best back-to-back hockey of the season when we played the top two teams in the league.

Of course, we were disappointed not to win against Telford, but I’m sure that everyone who watched that game will have been pleased by our performance.

We came back twice against the visitors, stuck to our game plan, and created scoring chances throughout the 60 minutes. If the puck had sometimes bounced more favourably, the result could have been different.

This was only the second occasion this season that the home fans have seen us lose, both in very tight finishes. They create a great atmosphere in the rink, generating energy and passion. They appreciate good hockey and, like us, enjoy it most when we win.

We intend to get back to winning ways when we entertain Peterborough this weekend.

We’ll be taking fresh memories of our convincing win on their ice last Sunday into that game.

We will, of course, be without three of our young players who are on international duty.

We wish Matt Selby, Declan Balmer and Cameron Wynn every success. We take extra pride knowing that Greg Owen will be travelling with the team as assistant coach.

Their recognition at national level will inspire everyone associated with Basingstoke Bison.

We’re also proud of our involvement in the Basingstoke community.

On Sunday, we’ll be holding our traditional Teddy Bear Toss during the cup game.

Make sure you’ve wrapped up your teddy bears tightly so that they are in perfect condition when we distribute them among children’s charities.

Thank you for supporting us in such numbers. We’re three months into the season and are very close to getting everything the way we want. You should have plenty to cheer about.

All the best,

Doug
