BASINGSTOKE Buffalo went one better than the Bison on Sunday night, scoring 10 times against Wightlink Tigers as the Herd were putting nine past the Wightlink Raiders.

The National Hockey League Cup 10-4 victory for the Buffalo kept them on course for a place in the semi-final of the competition.

In the first period on the Isle of Wight, the sides shared four goals as Daniel Lackey struck twice for the visitors, while Kieran Annis and Nathan Webb netted for the Tigers.

The home side grabbed the lead early in the |second period as Webb scored his second of the game, only to then ship in five unanswered goals.

Matt Lawday got the first of a period hat-trick and then Neil Leary and Ryan Sutton combined for Greg Martyn to score, which gave the Buffalo a lead they were never to surrender.

Lawday made the most of a great pass from Dave Collins to make it 5-3 and then two minutes later the same player completed his hat-trick.

Skipper Leary then added his side’s seventh goal, before Marcus Russell completed the second-period scoring.

The final session belonged to the visitors, as Mark Pitts grabbed a brace and Leary wrapped up the scoring with a shorthanded strike.

FTL Solutions-backed netminder Jordan Lawday picked up Buffalo man-of-the-match as he faced 42 shots.

The Buffalo, who head the South Two West division, are on the road again on Sunday, travelling to Cardiff for a top-of-the-table clash.
