JODIE Attrill scored four times as the Basingstoke Bison Ladies opened their Women’s South campaign with a fine 7-4 victory at Solent Amazons last Sunday.

After the home side scored first in the sixth minute, Attrill opened her account and then Lauren Pilbeam gave the visitors the lead, assisted by Emma Toose.

Attrill extended the advantage two minutes into the second period as she converted a pass from Dee West.

The same player then completed her hat-trick as she applied the finish to a move involving Toose and Leah Trueman.

Solent reduced the visitors’ lead at 22:03, but 54 seconds later, a solo strike from Aniko Gaal made sure the Bison Ladies led 5-2 at the second buzzer.

The final period saw Solent score first, before Gaal netted her second of the game, assisted by Lauren Pilbeam, and then Solent scored again to make it 6-4.

It was left to Attrill, with her fourth goal of the game, to wrap up the win for the Bison Ladies.

The under-18 Bison travelled to Guildford Phoenix for a challenge match, in which Tom Applin and Wesley Ridgaurd made their debuts and a lot of the defence were rested.

This did not stop the visitors opening the scoring after 96 seconds as Chris Hocquigny netted, assisted by Ben Clark and Jack Standing.

The Bison lead was doubled thanks to Paul Petts from Hallam Wilson and Josh Richards.

Good work from Applin stopped a Guildford attack and then George Gill took up a defensive role and cleared the puck.

The home side levelled things up with two goals either side of Kyle Goddard’s clearance off the line.

The visitors replied 28 seconds later, as Wilson scored, assisted by Goddard, and the Herd’s goalie Alex Bowers then pulled off a number of good saves before Guildford equalised.

Once again the Bison took the lead as Wilson scored from Petts, but the Phoenix levelled again 19 seconds before the first buzzer.

The second period started with the Bison scoring twice from Petts and a rocket shot from Clark.

Guildford netted and then Luke Coles and Hocquigny went close for the Herd, before the Phoenix tied the game.

The final session started with the Bison’s Josh Richards scoring, but Guildford hit back to take the lead for the first time.

A surging skate from the Herd’s Ridgaurd saw him just unable to find the scoring pass, but his side quickly equalised thanks to Wilson.

The Phoenix then took to control of the game to win 14-8.

The Bison’s spirit-of-the-game award went to netminder Bowers, who faced 68 shots.
