IT’S a good feeling, for fans and players, to be enjoying a good start to the season.

It’s what I hoped would happen when a large number of last year’s team agreed to come back for another season.

At the moment, they’re playing with the confidence that comes from last year’s successes and with a hunger to do even better.

Stuart Mogg, for example, has stepped up since last season. He’s worked hard over the summer and improved his physical conditioning.

He’s an important part of our penalty kill, which has been much more effective than last year.

When I gave him his award last season, I admitted that I had underestimated him when he was younger.

It’s great to see he has the character and determination to keep on proving me wrong.

Dean Skinns was a very under-rated goaltender at the beginning of last season.

Over the season, Bison fans realised how much his quiet, disciplined skills contributed to the team.

On Sunday he showed himself to be on top form with a shut-out in Peterborough.

Our style of play relies on depth and already the young newcomers to the team have quickly bought into how we work as a team. They’re working hard in training and picking up very quickly what is expected of them.

I had hoped to mention Greg Owen in last week’s diary. We’re delighted at his appointment as assistant coach to the British under-20 team.

In all the time he was associated with Bison, he was a role model, on and off the ice.

As a club, we are committed to helping young players develop and it’s great to know that Greg will be able to pass on his skills and values to Britain’s best young players.

See you Saturday,

Doug
