BASINGSTOKE Buffalo can take a big step towards making the semi-finals of the National Ice Hockey Cup when Wightlink Tigers are the visitors on Sunday (face-off 6.30pm).

Slough Jets are expected to win the four-team group, but the second spot is very much up for grabs and the Buffalo have already beaten Haringey, so victory over their Isle Of Wight rivals would put then in a strong position.

Last Sunday, the Buffalo lost their opening league game 9-4 against title favourites Bristol Pitbulls.

Home side forward Matt Lawday levelled the game at 7:20, but by the first buzzer Bristol led 4-1.

The second session saw just one goal for the visitors, and the final 20 minutes was also a close affair, as the Buffalo were edged out 4-3.

Greg Martyn netted the home side’s second goal as he converted Hallam Wilson’s pass.

Man-of-the-match Matt Pitts scored the Buffalo’s last two goals, with Lawday getting helpers on both and Ryan Sutton an assist on his final strike.
